Why choose Plusnet broadband

Plusnet broadband packages are often priced competitively compared with major UK providers. Pricing varies by promotion and availability, so comparisons can change over time.

Other reasons customers may consider Plusnet include:

Plusnet does not currently offer TV or mobile services, focusing instead on standalone broadband packages.

The supplied router, the Plusnet Hub Two, is based on BT's Smart Hub 2 hardware and supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), but runs different firmware. This means it does not support BT's proprietary mesh extender system, although third-party networking equipment may still be used.

Plusnet broadband speeds

Plusnet offers a range of broadband speed tiers depending on local network availability, with the widest choice typically available in areas served by full fibre infrastructure.

The advertised average download speed for the part-fibre package is 66Mbps, although line capability can vary by address and some customers may receive speeds of up to around 70Mbps.

Full fibre packages are available with advertised average download speeds ranging from 74Mbps to 900Mbps at peak times.

Average download speed Average upload speed
Fibre 66Mb 17Mb
Full Fibre 74 74Mb 20Mb
Full Fibre 145 145Mb 30Mb
Full Fibre 300 300Mb 50Mb
Full Fibre 500 500Mb 75Mb
Full Fibre 900 900Mb 115Mb

Advertised average speeds represent the download speeds that at least 50% of customers can expect to receive during peak hours (typically 8pm to 10pm), when network demand is highest.

Plusnet also provides a minimum guaranteed download speed when customers sign up. If speeds fall below this estimate and the issue cannot be resolved within 30 days of being reported, customers may have the right to leave their contract without early termination fees.

New customer offers

Plusnet typically promotes introductory pricing for new customers who sign up to selected broadband packages. Prices and incentives can vary over time and by availability.

Current deals are listed in the comparison table above, and customers can check which Plusnet packages are available at their address by entering their postcode.

Plusnet customers may also have access to a rewards programme called My Perks. This scheme provides discounts on selected third-party services, which have included food delivery, digital subscriptions and fitness platforms. Available partners may change.

Key terms for Plusnet broadband

Plusnet broadband packages typically come with a minimum contract term of 24 months. Customers who cancel before the end of this period may need to pay early termination charges, depending on the remaining time left on the agreement.

Prices usually increase after the minimum term ends. Plusnet provides end-of-contract notifications outlining available renewal deals, which customers can review and switch to through their online account.

Plusnet no longer sells new home phone services. Customers who still have legacy phone services should check their account or contact the provider to confirm how their service will be affected when their contract ends.

Plusnet also applies annual price increases during the minimum term. For contracts taken out from 9 July 2024, the provider moved to fixed pounds-and-pence rises rather than inflation-linked increases. For customers who sign up on or after 5 August 2025, broadband prices now increase by £4 per month each year. More details are available in our guide to mid-contract price rises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Plusnet broadband cost?

Plusnet broadband prices typically start from around £20 per month, depending on current promotions, package type and availability at the customer's address.

Most UK households can access at least one Plusnet broadband service via the Openreach network, while full fibre pricing may also start from similar entry-level rates in areas where it is available.

Current Plusnet broadband packages do not include a traditional home phone service, and connections are usually provided as broadband-only lines.

What router comes with Plusnet broadband?

Most Plusnet broadband packages include the Plusnet Hub Two router, although the exact equipment provided may vary depending on the service ordered.

The Hub Two is a dual-band router supporting 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). It has seven internal antennas designed to provide stable wireless coverage throughout a typical home environment.

Does Plusnet offer a home phone plan?

Plusnet no longer sells home phone services to new customers, and broadband packages are now offered as broadband-only connections.

Customers do not need to take a separate line rental service with another provider to use Plusnet broadband.

Can I get TNT Sports with Plusnet?

Plusnet does not offer TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) as part of its broadband packages. The provider stopped selling BT Sport add-ons in May 2023, and existing customer access ended in July 2023.

Customers who want TNT Sports can still subscribe directly through supported platforms such as Discovery+, independent of their broadband provider.

Plusnet's own TV service was discontinued in 2021, and the company now focuses on standalone broadband products.

How do I switch to Plusnet broadband?

Switching to Plusnet broadband is usually straightforward. After choosing a deal from the comparison table above, customers can click through and select a preferred installation or activation date.

Most broadband switches now use the industry's One Touch Switch process. This means the new provider - in this case Plusnet - handles the transfer and contacts the previous provider to arrange the switch.

The same process generally applies whether moving from another Openreach-based provider such as BT or Sky, or switching from a different network such as Virgin Media or Hyperoptic.
