Sky Gigafast delivers average download speeds of 900Mb over a full fibre (FTTP) connection. Upload speeds are 90Mb on Openreach and typically symmetrical at 900Mb in CityFibre areas.
The plan includes the WiFi 6-enabled Sky Max Hub and a digital home phone line, with the option to add WiFi Max for enhanced wireless guarantees and mesh coverage.
Gigafast sits at the top of Sky's full fibre range and is designed for households with very heavy simultaneous usage.

Who is Sky Gigafast best for?
Sky Full Fibre Gigafast is designed for households with very high simultaneous usage, where multiple people are gaming, streaming in Ultra HD, transferring large files or working from home at the same time.
With 900Mb download speeds - and symmetrical 900Mb uploads in CityFibre areas - Gigafast provides significant capacity headroom for homes that regularly place heavy demands on their connection.
Typical use cases include:
- Larger households with many connected devices active at once
- Hybrid or remote working environments with large file transfers and video conferencing
- Online gaming where low latency and fast downloads matter
- Content creation and live streaming, particularly in CityFibre areas with symmetrical uploads
- Multiple simultaneous 4K streams across TVs and devices
Gigabit broadband has become significantly more affordable in recent years. With promotional pricing now often in the low-to-mid £30 range, 900Mb plans are no longer priced far above 500Mb tiers.
However, many households will not fully utilise a 900Mb connection on a day-to-day basis. For some homes, Sky Full Fibre 500 may offer a more proportionate balance between speed and cost.
Decision summary: Gigafast is best suited to very large or high-demand households, but with gigabit pricing now closer to mid-tier plans, it has become a more practical option for busy families wanting additional performance headroom.

Gigafast and calls
Sky includes a digital home phone line as standard with Gigafast, with pay-as-you-go calling available. Some full fibre providers do not include a phone service as standard, or charge extra for it.
Pay-as-you-go calls cost 27p per minute to UK landlines and mobiles, plus a 25p connection charge per call.
Customers who regularly use their home phone can add one of the following inclusive Sky Talk plans:
| Call plan | Includes | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Talk Evenings & Weekends | Unlimited evening calls (7pm-7am) and weekend calls to UK landlines and mobiles | £8 |
| Talk Anytime | Unlimited anytime calls to UK landlines and mobiles | £17 |
| Talk International | Unlimited anytime UK calls plus landline calls to 50 international destinations | £18 |
Sky Talk plans typically run on the same 24-month minimum term as the broadband service and may be subject to in-contract price increases.

Sky Gigafast vs Sky Full Fibre 500
Sky Gigafast sits above Sky Full Fibre 500 in Sky's full fibre range, offering 900Mb average download speeds compared with 500Mb on the lower tier.
Pricing differences between the two plans vary depending on current offers, but Gigafast is typically around £5 per month more than Full Fibre 500.
Here's how the packages compare:
| Package | Broadband | Monthly price | Upfront price | Contract term | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Full Fibre 500 | 500Mb average | £28 | £5 | 24 months |
|
Full Fibre Gigafast | 900Mb average | £34 | £5 | 24 months |
Should you upgrade?
For many households, Full Fibre 500 will already provide more than enough capacity for streaming, gaming and working from home. However, with gigabit pricing now significantly lower than in previous years, the step up to 900Mb is no longer a large financial jump.
If you live in a larger home with many active devices, heavy simultaneous usage, or want maximum performance headroom, Gigafast is increasingly a realistic option - particularly when paired with the £4 per month WiFi Max add-on, which can provide up to three mesh WiFi Pods to improve coverage.
If your usage is lighter or more occasional, Full Fibre 500 may remain the more proportionate choice.

How does Sky Gigafast compare?
Most major UK broadband providers now offer gigabit-capable plans delivering average download speeds of around 900Mb to 1Gb. Sky Gigafast is currently priced at around £33 per month, placing it close to the centre of the 900Mb market.
Here's how Sky Gigafast compares on base monthly pricing:
| Package | Broadband | Monthly price | Upfront price | Contract term | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Full Fibre Gigafast | 900Mb average | £34 | £5 | 24 months |
|
Full Fibre 910 | 910Mb average | £29 | Free | 24 months |
|
Full Fibre 900 | 900Mb average | £29.99 | Free | 24 months |
|
Gig1 Fibre Broadband | 1.13Gb average | £31.99 | Free | 24 months |
While Vodafone and Plusnet often advertise slightly lower headline prices, the total monthly cost can change once router quality, phone service and whole-home WiFi coverage are considered.
Sky includes a WiFi 6 router and digital home phone line as standard. Adding WiFi Max for £4 per month provides a 25Mb wireless guarantee and up to three mesh WiFi Pods.
Vodafone's 900Mb plan is the closest like-for-like competitor at around £29 per month. It also includes WiFi 6 and a phone line, although its mesh add-on typically costs around £7 per month.
Virgin Media's closest tier is priced at around £31.99 and includes WiFi 6 equipment with mesh as standard, but does not include a digital home phone line.
EE and BT are generally priced similarly to Sky at headline level or slightly higher, though phone service usually costs around £5 extra and mesh support around £10 per month.
Plusnet is cheaper at around £29.99, but provides WiFi 5 equipment, no phone line and no mesh option, which may be limiting for larger homes at gigabit speeds.
For larger homes that require mesh coverage, the effective monthly cost between providers narrows considerably once add-ons are factored in.
Feature comparison at a glance
| Provider | Router | Phone included | Mesh cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sky Gigafast | WiFi 6 | Yes | £4 |
| Vodafone 900Mb | WiFi 6 | Yes | £7 |
| Virgin Media 1130Mb | WiFi 6 + mesh included | No | Included |
| EE 900Mb | WiFi 6 | No (+£5) | £10 |
| BT 900Mb | WiFi 5 | No (+£5) | £10 |
| Plusnet | WiFi 5 | No | No mesh option |
On a like-for-like basis, Virgin Media currently offers one of the lowest total costs where mesh coverage is included as standard. Its Gig1 tier delivers higher headline download speeds at around 1130Mb, though it does not include a digital home phone line and operates on a different cable network rather than Openreach or CityFibre FTTP.
Vodafone is marginally cheaper than Sky at headline level and remains competitive once mesh is added. EE and BT become more expensive once both mesh coverage and phone service are factored in.
Sky Gigafast therefore sits in the upper-middle of the 900Mb market: not the cheapest outright, but competitively positioned once router quality, phone inclusion and lower-cost mesh support are taken into account.
How fast is Sky Full Fibre Gigafast?
Sky Full Fibre Gigafast offers average download speeds of 900Mb at peak times (8pm-10pm), meaning at least 50% of customers receive this speed during the busiest period of the day.
Average upload speeds are 90Mb on Openreach connections. In CityFibre areas, upload speeds are typically symmetrical at 900Mb.
| Average download speed | Average upload speed | |
|---|---|---|
| Sky Full Fibre Gigafast | 900Mb | 90Mb (Openreach) 900Mb (CityFibre) |
Gigafast is delivered over a full fibre to the premises (FTTP) connection, where fibre runs directly into the home. This removes the distance limitations and signal degradation associated with older part-fibre (FTTC) networks.
Full fibre connections are widely regarded as the most reliable broadband option currently available in the UK, offering lower latency, more stable performance and fewer faults compared with legacy copper-based infrastructure.
Minimum speed guarantee
Sky is a signatory to Ofcom's Voluntary Code of Practice on Broadband Speeds, meaning customers receive both a personalised speed estimate and a minimum guaranteed speed at the point of sign-up.
For example, when we checked a postcode, Sky provided the following estimates:
| Estimated download speed | Minimum guaranteed speed | |
|---|---|---|
| Sky Gigafast | 780 - 930Mb | 600Mb |
The personalised estimate reflects the likely performance at a specific property. The minimum guaranteed speed acts as a contractual safeguard.
If speeds fall below the guaranteed minimum for three consecutive days and Sky cannot resolve the issue within 30 days, customers can leave the contract early without penalty.
In addition, Sky's Speed Guarantee allows customers who do not receive their minimum guaranteed speed to claim one month's broadband subscription back.
Sky WiFi guarantees explained
Sky Full Fibre Gigafast customers benefit from two separate WiFi guarantees: the free Wall-to-Wall WiFi Guarantee and the optional WiFi Max add-on.
Wall-to-Wall WiFi Guarantee (included)
All Sky broadband customers receive the Wall-to-Wall WiFi Guarantee at no extra cost. This promises minimum wireless download speeds of 3Mb in every room of the home.
If speeds drop below 3Mb in any room and Sky cannot resolve the issue, customers can claim one month's broadband subscription back. However, this guarantee does not automatically include WiFi extenders.
WiFi Max add-on (£4 per month)
For an additional £4 per month, customers can upgrade to WiFi Max. On the Gigafast plan, this increases the guaranteed minimum wireless speed to 25Mb in every room.
If required, Sky will provide up to three Plume WiFi Pods to help achieve this coverage. These are small mesh boosters that plug directly into standard UK wall sockets and communicate wirelessly with the Sky Max Hub to extend signal strength around the home.
The pods are typically placed in areas where signal drops - such as upstairs bedrooms, extensions or home offices - creating a mesh network that improves consistency rather than simply amplifying signal.

WiFi Max also includes daily line checks, off-peak engineer visits at no extra cost, and a 2GB data boost for Sky Mobile customers if the fixed-line connection goes down.
If Sky cannot achieve the 25Mb minimum despite installing boosters and, where necessary, sending an engineer, customers can claim one month's broadband subscription back.
| Wall-to-Wall (Free) | WiFi Max (£4/mth) | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum wireless speed | 3Mb in every room | 25Mb in every room (Gigafast) |
| Mesh boosters included | No | Up to 3 Plume WiFi Pods |
| Engineer support | Standard support | Free off-peak engineer visits |
| Refund if guarantee not met | 1 month subscription back | 1 month subscription back |
For larger homes - particularly those using a 900Mb connection across multiple floors - WiFi Max is often the more relevant guarantee, as gigabit speeds can only be realised fully with strong internal coverage.
Sky Max Hub
Sky Full Fibre Gigafast comes with the Sky Max Hub as standard. This is Sky's current-generation dual-band WiFi 6 router, designed to support high-capacity full fibre connections.
WiFi 6 (802.11ax) allows compatible devices - such as newer smartphones, laptops, Sky Stream and Sky Glass - to connect more efficiently and at higher sustained wireless speeds compared with older WiFi 5 equipment.

The Sky Max Hub supports large numbers of connected devices simultaneously and includes four Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired connections, which can be useful for gaming consoles, desktop PCs or network switches. It also supports WPA3 encryption for updated wireless security.
| Specification | Sky Max Hub |
|---|---|
| WiFi standard | WiFi 6 (802.11ax) |
| Bands | Dual-band (2.4GHz & 5GHz) |
| Maximum supported devices | Up to 250 wireless devices |
| Ethernet ports | 4 x 1Gb LAN ports |
| Security | WPA3 encryption |
| Mesh compatibility | Supports Plume WiFi Pods (via WiFi Max add-on) |
For larger homes, Sky's WiFi Max add-on (£4 per month) enables mesh functionality via up to three Plume WiFi Pods. These plug directly into standard UK wall sockets and work alongside the Sky Max Hub to extend wireless coverage into areas where signal strength may otherwise drop, such as upstairs bedrooms or home offices.
WiFi Max also includes enhanced parental controls, device pause scheduling, daily line checks and free off-peak engineer visits via the My Sky app.
It's worth noting that some providers - including EE and Vodafone - have begun introducing WiFi 7 routers on selected top-tier plans. Sky has also launched a newer Gigafast+ Hub with WiFi 7 support for its multi-gigabit Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ and 5 Gigafast+ packages. However, this WiFi 7 hardware is not currently included with the standard Gigafast plan.
For most households, WiFi 6 remains more than capable of supporting a 900Mb connection. However, as device counts increase and WiFi 7 adoption grows, next-generation hardware may offer additional headroom for very high-throughput wireless environments.
Verdict: Is Sky Gigafast worth it?
Sky Gigafast is Sky's fastest widely available full fibre plan, delivering average download speeds of 900Mb and 90Mb uploads on Openreach connections (with symmetrical speeds in CityFibre areas).
At around £33 per month for new customers, gigabit-capable broadband is now considerably more affordable than it was when this tier first launched, making Gigafast a realistic option for larger or busier households rather than just extreme users.
Sky includes its WiFi 6-enabled Sky Max Hub and a digital home phone line as standard, with the option to add WiFi Max for £4 per month to introduce mesh coverage and a 25Mb wireless speed guarantee. While some rivals now offer WiFi 7 hardware on selected premium tiers, Sky's overall package remains competitively positioned for most homes.
Gigafast is best suited to properties where multiple people are online simultaneously - particularly for 4K streaming, gaming, large file downloads or shared home working environments. For smaller households, Sky Full Fibre 500 may offer better value.
Availability continues to expand across both Openreach and CityFibre networks. Where it is available, Sky Gigafast represents a strong balance of speed, bundled features and price in the current gigabit market.
If this sounds like it might suit your home, the next step is checking what full fibre services are actually available at your address.
