Virgin Media customers with a TiVo box can upgrade to a TV360 box for free.
Virgin Media's TiVo set-top TV box will stop supporting the BBC iPlayer app from 23rd July 2025, and affected customers will lose access to iPlayer content.
The provider has started emailing these customers to let them know about the loss of support, with an offer to upgrade to the TV360 box free of charge.
Upgrading will ensure customers can continue enjoying BBC iPlayer and other streaming features without interruption.
Virgin Media has begun informing TV customers with their legacy TiVo box that the BBC iPlayer app "will no longer be supported" from 23rd July 2025.
TiVo was first launched by Virgin Media in 2010, and was subsequently replaced by the V6 box in December 2016, and then by the TV 360 box in November 2020.
While TiVo still supports some on-demand players like ITVX, Channel 4, and Netflix, it's missing many other new apps, like Disney+, Paramount+, and Apple TV+, which have all been added to the TV 360 and Stream boxes in recent years.
To solve the problem, Virgin Media are offering affected customers the option to upgrade to the TV 360 box at no extra cost, which has previously cost £49.95 for existing customers who do not want to re-contract at the same time.
Virgin Media customers with the TiVo box may want to take the free upgrade option with TV 360 offering a more modern viewing experience, having benefitted from more recent and on-going upgrades.
TV 360 offers a more responsive interface and redesigned layout, allowing users to more easily access their favourite content with fewer clicks and delays.
The TV 360 box also supports voice control through the remote, allowing customers to search for shows, launch apps, or change channels using simple voice commands - a feature that's not available on TiVo.
Unlike the TiVo box, which is now limited in terms of new app support, the TV 360 box includes access to many of the latest streaming services. Apps like Disney+, Paramount+, and Apple TV+ now come preloaded, giving customers a wider range of entertainment without needing extra devices.
Another major benefit of upgrading is the improved multi-room experience. With TV 360, customers can pause a show in one room and pick it up in another, thanks to seamless integration between boxes throughout the home.
It also includes personal profiles, so each family member can have their own watchlists and tailored recommendations - a level of convenience and personalisation that simply wasn't possible with TiVo.
Virgin Media's offer to upgrade TiVo customers free of charge removes the usual £49.95 fee, making this an ideal opportunity to move to the improved TV 360 system and access more content overall, as well as retain access to BBC iPlayer.
