Sky to end 'Sky Live' camera support for Glass TVs

Sky has announced that its Sky Live camera and related services will be discontinued.

Sky has confirmed it will discontinue its Sky Live camera and related services for Sky Glass TVs from 4 December 2025.

The move means both the Sky Live hardware and its interactive features will stop working entirely after that date.

Customers affected by the shutdown will be offered refunds of up to £290, with any remaining payments automatically cancelled.

Sky Live cancelled

Sky Live, the interactive camera designed exclusively for Sky Glass TVs, has been discontinued after just two years on the market, the provider says they'll be "focusing our investment where it matters most to customers: faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service."

Launched in June 2023, Sky Live aimed to let Sky TV viewers play motion-controlled games, take part in interactive fitness sessions, make video calls, and even watch shows together remotely via screen sharing.

However, while such features might have resonated during the COVID lockdowns, the concept appears to have struggled to attract a large audience once everyday life returned to normal.

Customers who purchased the device are now being notified by email that the Sky Live service will cease to function from 4 December 2025.

As the device will no longer be supported or usable, customers are advised to either return it to Sky or dispose of it responsibly at a local electrical recycling point.

Sky has confirmed that all Sky Live customers will receive a full refund of the amount paid - up to the original purchase price of £290 - with any future payments automatically cancelled.

A spokesperson from Sky said, "Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky, finding new ways to make the TV experience even better for our customers. Sky Live was part of that journey, and we're proud of the ambition behind it. It's given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products.

"We have, however, made the difficult decision to discontinue it, in order to focus our investment on what matters most to customers.

"We understand this news may be disappointing to people who have enjoyed using Sky Live, and we're sorry about that.

"Sky Live customers will be entitled to a refund for the value that they have paid towards their Sky Live device, this will automatically be sent to the direct debit on their Sky Account or, if they paid in full, the card used to make the purchase within 3 weeks of the 4th November."

Sky Live refunds

Customers will be able to continue using their Sky Live device until 4 December 2025, with Sky providing support up to that date - though faulty devices will not be replaced.

Those who purchased their Sky Live camera outright will receive a full refund of £290 within the next three weeks.

Customers paying monthly will have their instalment plans cancelled and refunded in full for all payments made so far. Sky has confirmed that credit ratings will not be affected, as the contracts will be marked as fully paid and settled.

In both cases, any outstanding balances with Sky will be deducted from the refund amount, even if the debt relates to other services such as broadband or phone.

Customers who purchased a second-hand Sky Live device, however, will not be eligible for a refund.

Returning the device is not required to receive a refund, but as the camera will cease to function entirely, Sky is offering pre-paid Royal Mail return labels for those wishing to send it back. Alternatively, customers can dispose of their camera responsibly at a local electrical recycling point.

Future for Sky Glass

While Sky Live may have been discontinued, Sky is continuing to invest heavily in its flagship television platform, Sky Glass.

The company launched the second-generation Sky Glass in February 2025, featuring a brighter, more energy-efficient display and improved sound performance, followed by the announcement of Sky Glass Air, a slimmer and more affordable model released in June 2025.

Sky has also recognised the strong interest in gaming that emerged through Sky Live, and plans to expand the range of titles available directly on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.

These additions aim to make gaming a more integral part of the Sky ecosystem, allowing customers to play without the need for a separate console - mirroring initiatives from companies like Netgem and Netflix, who are also bringing cloud gaming to smart TVs.

New and upcoming releases on Sky's gaming platform include Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, arcade classics like Pac-Man, family favourites featuring Teletubbies and SpongeBob SquarePants, and timeless titles such as Solitaire and Chess.

Games can be accessed easily using voice control by saying "Games", or via the Home menu under the Games section.
