Who offers the cheapest TV and broadband deal?
Finding the cheapest TV and broadband deal for us depends on how exacting we're being. If we just want to be able to get all three services for the least cost, filter the table above by package price to see the cheapest deals. But if we want a bundle that includes particular features - certain channels, phone calls, broadband of a certain speed - use the search above to help filter the results.
A full media bundle includes a phone line, making line rental an unavoidable extra cost, so bear that in mind when comparing similar services or package prices - hover over the "price details" of any package to see its total monthly cost including line rental. If two deals are similar in price, check which services are included – one may offer more TV channels, or more in the way of broadband or calls, and which is better value for us depends on what services we're after.
What kind of TV and broadband deals are available?
We might expect the cheapest TV and broadband deals to come with their providers' most basic options for each service - but depending on the special offers and introductory deals available, that isn't always the case. Most providers will offer some kind of discount on one or more of their services for new customers; these can range from cheap or even free broadband to a special offer on the price of the whole deal for a certain period - sometimes for the length of the initial contract. That can sometimes make signing up to a supposedly more expensive deal cheaper than going for a smaller bundle.
TV and broadband bundles also vary in flexibility as well as price, with some providers only offering set services, while others allow us to build our own package. Set deals can often be cheaper, but there is a greater chance that we'll end up paying for something we don't need, or lacking something we do want. The deals that let us mix and match services may cost more - but they do give us the option to downgrade one service in favour of another, which will help keep overall costs lower.
Can I save money by taking TV and broadband together?
Getting the most out of any pay TV service means having a broadband connection, because no matter how the live TV channels are broadcast – via satellite, cable or from an old fashioned mast to our TV aerial – all the on demand content is streamed over an internet connection. What's more, when it comes to the providers offering Youview, it's simply not possible to get their TV without taking their broadband as well.
Because of this, and because competition is so strong, many providers offer some kind of discount or deal for those willing to bundle all the necessary services, including the phone line required to take broadband. These can range from money off the standard price of the bundle or one of the services included, to vouchers, cash back or free gifts. How else can I bring my TV, broadband and phone costs down?
All the deals listed above rely on us paying line rental – but it is possible to cut even this cost by looking for an upfront payment option. When available, it can save about 10% on the full cost of line rental over the year. Also check if there are any calls included with the line rental – and if not, consider adding a call pack. This might sound odd, but making anything other than 0800 calls on a pay to talk basis can rapidly cost more than adding an evening and weekend calls deal, for example.
It's worth looking into which channels are included in each provider's basic bundles, and whether we can add others without having to subscribe to a more expensive deal. The most obvious examples are Sky Sports and Sky Movies, which can be added most of the deals listed above – but it's also worth looking into things like kids' TV or HD bolt-ons as a cheaper way to get more of the services we actually want.
Why can't I get a cheap bundle from provider x?
Not all providers are available all over the UK, and even where they are available, not all the deals listed above may be on offer. The best way to find out exactly what's available before getting our hopes up is to use the postcode checker above to narrow down the search.
