Support for the Disney+ app has been added to both the EE TV Box Pro and EE TV Box Edge for both new and existing customers.

Available from June 2026, the rollout brings the platform closer to competitors Sky and Virgin Media, who have offered the streaming service for six and four years respectively.

While the app is now accessible across BT and EE TV hardware, customers must still purchase a separate Disney+ subscription, with prices starting from £5.99 per month.

Disney+ on EE TV

Both BT and EE broadband and TV customers can now access the Disney+ app directly via their set-top boxes, with support rolling out to both new and existing customers.

The app is now available on both the EE TV Box Pro and EE TV Box Edge, bringing the platform into line with other major UK TV providers. Customers can browse and stream Disney+ content directly from their TV box, although subscriptions must still be purchased and managed separately through Disney+.

Disney+ is available across three subscription tiers:

  • Standard with Ads: £5.99 per month
  • Standard (Ad-free): £9.99 per month
  • Premium (4K/UHD): £14.99 per month

Unlike its main rivals, EE TV does not currently offer integrated billing for the app. By comparison, Sky now includes Disney+ within its updated Ultimate TV package, while Virgin Media allows Flex customers to pay through their monthly bill in exchange for a 10% bill credit discount.

While one of the EE TV Box Pro's standout features is its built-in recordable hard drive, it's worth noting that Disney+, like other on-demand streaming services, cannot be recorded to the device.

Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV, EE, said,

"It's our goal to make EE TV a go-to destination for great entertainment, and adding the Disney+ app reinforces that by bringing an even broader mix of much-loved content to the platform. From big new releases to iconic series and timeless family favourites, it gives customers more of what they love, all in one place."

What's on Disney+

Adding the Disney+ app gives EE TV customers access to one of the broadest streaming libraries available, bringing together content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, FX and Star under a single subscription.

That includes blockbuster franchises such as The Mandalorian, Andor, Loki, Daredevil: Born Again, The Simpsons, Only Murders in the Building, Grey's Anatomy and the full catalogue of Pixar and Disney animated classics, alongside a growing collection of original UK productions.

Among the platform's newest releases is the British comedy Alice and Steve, starring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement, while food and travel fans can also watch the second season of Tucci in Italy (formerly Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy).

Disney+ is also streaming the fifth and final season of FX's critically acclaimed restaurant drama The Bear, one of the platform's most acclaimed exclusive series.

Looking ahead, Disney's 2026 theatrical slate includes Pixar's Toy Story 5 and the live-action adaptation of Moana. While both films are currently cinema releases, they are expected to arrive on Disney+ following their theatrical and home entertainment windows.

Delayed arrival: the strategic context

With Sky securing Disney+ in 2020 and Virgin Media following in 2022, the BT and EE TV platform has been notably late to integrate the service.

Ahead of Disney+'s UK launch in 2020, reports suggested BT was in talks to bring the streaming platform to its TV customers. However, Disney instead opted for an exclusive launch partnership with Sky.

At the time, Marc Allera, then head of BT's consumer division, told The Sunday Times: "Because we have a connection in every other home in the UK, we can provide significant scale and reach for their services."

While customers using Apple TV devices with EE TV have long been able to access Disney+, those using YouView-based hardware such as the TV Box Pro have spent years requesting native support, with forum posts regularly questioning when the app would finally arrive.

So why now?

There doesn't appear to be any wider strategic move behind the launch beyond bringing the platform into line with competitors as competition in the full fibre broadband market continues to intensify.

BT has also recently refreshed its consumer proposition, relaunching BT Mobile, upgrading the BT Smart Hub to the WiFi 6-enabled Smart Hub 3, and enhancing its security add-ons. Meanwhile, EE already includes a WiFi 7 router with its broadband packages as standard.

One question that remains is if BT is repositioning the BT retail brand as its flagship residential offering, whether continuing to market its TV platform under the EE brand will make strategic sense in the longer term.
