Discovery+ shakes up plans with new pricing

Discovery+ introduces dedicated TNT Sports plan amid overall price increase.

Discovery+ has returned to a three-tier subscription model, separating sports and entertainment content, while introducing a third option that includes access to both.

The new standalone 'TNT Sports' plan is priced at £30.99 per month, while subscribers who want both entertainment and sports will now pay £33.99 per month.

Existing Discovery+ Premium subscribers will be automatically switched to the new 'TNT Sports & Entertainment' tier, increasing their annual fee by £36.

TNT Sports plan

Discovery+ has relaunched its subscription offering in the UK with a new three-tier model, replacing the previous 'Basic' and 'Premium' plans with 'Entertainment', 'TNT Sports', and 'TNT Sports & Entertainment'.

The new standalone TNT Sports tier for viewers primarily interested in live sports content, includes both TNT Sports and Eurosport content, following the merger of the two brands in February 2025.

While viewers who only want access to TNT Sports can continue paying the same monthly fee, those who previously enjoyed both sports and entertainment channels - such as TLC, Quest, Really, and Discovery - will now need to pay an additional £3 per month for the combined TNT Sports & Entertainment plan.

Discovery+ for free: What's included with Sky, BT, and Virgin Media

For many pay-TV customers, access to Discovery+ - including its newly restructured plans - comes bundled with existing subscriptions, offering added value without additional cost.

Sky currently includes Discovery+ Basic (now rebranded as Entertainment) at no extra cost for all customers, giving access to on-demand content and live channels like Discovery, TLC, Quest, and Really.

Customers who subscribe to TNT Sports through Sky also receive the full TNT Sports & Entertainment package, previously known as Discovery+ Premium, which includes both sports and entertainment content under one plan.

BT TV customers also benefit: Discovery+ Basic is bundled with BT's Entertainment, Big Entertainment, and Full Works packages. Those who take TNT Sports as part of their BT subscription are upgraded to the TNT Sports & Entertainment tier, offering full access to both Eurosport and TNT Sports content alongside the entertainment library. However, it's currently unclear whether customers on the Sport or Big Sport plans will continue receiving the entertainment portion under the new pricing model.

Virgin Media, meanwhile, includes a range of Discovery-branded live channels (such as Discovery Channel and TLC) with its Bigger Bundle and higher-tier TV packages. However, Virgin customers currently lack native access to the Discovery+ app on Virgin's TV platform, meaning they'll need to use a separate device (like a smart TV, mobile app, or streaming stick) and pay separately for a Discovery+ subscription if they want access to on-demand content.

For viewers already paying for sports or entertainment via Sky or BT, these bundled Discovery+ subscriptions offer significant savings - providing full access to content that would otherwise cost up to £33.99 per month if purchased separately.

What's next

As Warner Bros. Discovery continues to refine its streaming strategy ahead of the expected UK launch of its unified Max platform in 2026 - which will combine Discovery+ content with premium HBO programming such as House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us - these recent changes to Discovery+ may be laying the groundwork for that broader rollout.

When Max arrives in the UK, it will be offered as a free, ad-supported service for Sky customers, further cementing the long-standing partnership between the two companies and providing viewers with another way to access Warner Bros. Discovery content at no additional cost.
