Sky Cinema customers can now upgrade their free Paramount+ subscription to remove ads.
Sky TV customers with the Sky Cinema pack can now upgrade the free Paramount+ subscription to remove adverts at a discounted price.
Following downgrading the free plan to Paramount+ Basic (with ads) in January 2025, customers can now choose to upgrade to either Standard or Premium.
Discounted pricing also continues to save Sky Cinema customers £4.99 per month off the price of a standalone Paramount+ subscription.
Since Paramount+ launched in the UK in June 2022, Sky Cinema customers who sign up direct with Sky, have benefitted from free access, worth, at the time, £6.99 per month.
However, at the end of 2024, Paramount+ moved to a tiered subscription model, much like that also found with Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
And, much like its rivals, Paramount's move bought in a 'Basic (with ads)' plan as it's cheapest option, priced at just £4.99 per month. The new ad-free version, Standard, rose by one pound to £7.99 per month, while the new Premium 4K UHD option now costs £10.99.
However, following this update, Sky's free Paramount+ version was downgraded to the Basic (with ads) plan from 21st January 2025, reducing Sky Cinema customer's saving to £4.99 per month.
In addition, at the time, Sky said it wasn't yet possible for customers to upgrade from the free plan, in the same way they can with Netflix.
As of May 2025, however, Sky have quietly introduced an upgrade path for Sky Cinema customers who want to move to either Paramount+ Standard or Paramount+ Premium.
What's more, is these upgrades also benefit from discounted pricing, with Sky Cinema customers still able to save £4.99 per month off the upgraded plans.
Upgrading to Paramount+ Standard, which includes ad-free streaming, the option to stream on up to 2 devices at once, and downloadable content, will cost an extra £3 per month (£7.99 usual price).
While Paramount+ Premium, which boosts content from 1080p HD to 4K Ultra HD, and add streaming on up to 4 devices, costs an extra £6 per month (£10.99 usual price).
Those subscribing to Sky Cinema via Sky will likely see Paramount+ as an extra benefit, and the content on offer is certainly worth checking out.
Programmes include popular series Yellowstone, 1923, Yellowjackets, Major of Kingstown, Mobland, Dexter New Blood, and Little Disasters, many of which are originals and exclusive to Paramount+.
Films and documentaries are available too, including Gladiator II, Transformers One, and Mission:Impossible Fallout. As well as movies from the archive, including Pompeii, No country for old men, Eye for an eye, Top Gun, and many others.
As an add-on to Sky Cinema it definitely seems worth it, and now, those that find the adverts annoying can pay just £3 per month to remove them and move to Paramount+ Standard.
While Paramount+ isn't included in any other pay TV bundles, it is now supported by the Virgin TV 360 and Virgin Stream boxes, as well as the BT/EE TV Box Pro.
It's also possible to subscribe to Paramount+ via Amazon Prime, for anyone with a smart TV with Prime Video support but missing the Paramount+ app itself.
