VodafoneThree merger brings significant boost in mobile speeds for Three UK customers.

More than 7 million Three UK customers are now enjoying an average 20% speed increase in 4G speeds thanks to the merger with Vodafone.

The improvement has been made possible by activating an extra 5MHz of 1800MHz spectrum across nearly 15,000 sites nationwide.

Customers in areas like Aylesbury have seen speed boosts of up to 40%, with more upgrades rolling out across the UK.

Faster speeds for Three UK

Just weeks after completing their merger in May 2025, VodafoneThree has rolled out one of its first major perks for customers: faster 4G speeds for millions across the Three UK network.

Over 7 million Three UK customers are now benefiting from boosted 4G speeds by an average of 20%, with some areas, including Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, reporting a 40% uplift in 4G speeds.

The improved performance comes from the activation of an additional 5MHz of 1800MHz spectrum across nearly 15,000 Three UK sites.

Actual speed improvements will vary by location, depending on site configuration, with the largest gains in areas that previously had the least capacity.

While the first locations to benefit are Sussex and Kent in the South East, upgrades are also making their way to Scotland.

Andrea Donà, Chief Networks Officer, VodafoneThree, said, "We promised a new era of connectivity and millions of UK customers are already experiencing a 4G speed boost of up to 40%. We're moving at pace, and we're just getting started."

Era of connectivity

Three UK's 4G speed boost marks the first tangible step in VodafoneThree's wider ambition to build the UK's best mobile network through a fully funded £11 billion investment programme.

This long-term plan aims to deliver reliable, high-quality connectivity to 99.95% of the UK population by 2034, with a focus on improving service in rural and underserved areas.

The merger also paves the way for next-generation upgrades like wider 5G coverage, better indoor signal, and more capacity during busy times.

VodafoneThree's shared network model is expected to accelerate deployment while reducing duplication, potentially leading to more efficient use of spectrum and faster service improvements.

If fully delivered, the investment could support up to 13,000 jobs and help establish a more consistent mobile experience across the country.

What's next

While the current upgrades focus on boosting 4G performance, VodafoneThree says this is just the first phase of a broader strategy to modernise the UK's mobile infrastructure.

The company is expected to announce further enhancements in the coming months, including expanded 5G rollout and improvements to network resilience and capacity.

As the integration of Vodafone and Three continues, customers can expect ongoing updates as part of the merged provider's long-term commitment to improving connectivity across the UK.
