How to choose the best Zen broadband deal
Why should I go for Zen Internet?
There are many reasons why customers would be advised to go with Zen Internet for their broadband, yet perhaps the best reason is that the provider has a reputation for good customer service. They boast their own UK-based customer support centre, which is open seven days a week and which provides a level of service that has won awards on various occasions. On top of that, they also offer a wide range of broadband options, including standard ASDL broadband as well as numerous superfast fibre broadband options. This means that almost any kind of customer should be able to find what they're looking for, from those who want to stream media in high definition to those who just want to surf the web.
Do Zen Internet deals come with unlimited data?
Zen Internet are fairly unique insofar as most of their broadband packages can be taken with or without unlimited data, enabling those who don't need to download music or video so often the opportunity to save some money while still benefitting from Zen's customer service.
Conversely, for a bit extra, customers can benefit from "truly unlimited" data. Not only will they be able to download and consume as much online media as they want, but Zen's policies will also mean they won't be subject to a fair use policy or to traffic management. As such, their speeds won't be deliberately slowed down at peak times, enabling to enjoy a consistent service at all times of the day.
It's easy to switch to Zen
While it's understandable that people can be worried sometimes about switching to a new internet provider, Zen Internet assure would-be customers that switching to them is easy. On the one hand, this is because of rules introduced in 2015 which mean that a MAC key is no longer required to make a switch. Yet on the other, it's because Zen handle the entire switching process for new customers, who won't have to do anything besides placing their initial order. As a result, the switching process is hassle free, and should allow customers to move provider without having to experience much or any downtime.
What else do customers get with a Zen Internet broadband deal?
Aside from the strong customer service and the full range of standard and superfast speeds, a new subscriber to Zen Internet will also receive a "free" high-performance router. Of course, while it's advertised as free, it should be noted that most Zen Internet packages involve an activation charge, so it's arguable that this largely covers the cost of the new router. However, the unlimited ADSL broadband package offered by Zen doesn't require an installation or activation fee to be paid, and so long as a customer is moving from another ISP, it still offers the router free of charge.
Added to this, a Zen Internet broadband package also provides new customers with what is known as a static IP address. In contrast to dynamic IP addresses - which change with the network to which a device is connected - a static address stays the same regardless of where in the world a device is being used. This means it can be used by those who run their own FTP server or their own website, who host online gaming sessions, or who want to connect to their computer from anywhere in the world.
What about contracts?
Zen Internet are fairly unique in that they offer a variety of contract lengths. With their superfast fibre packages, for example, they require new customers to take out a 12-month contract, which obliges customers to stay with them until the full year has elapsed (otherwise customers have to pay an exit fee). However, with their capped broadband package they provide a one-month rolling contract, giving subscribers the flexibility to move quickly to another provider should they feel the need to do so.
Do I need to take out line rental?
While customers do need to have a fixed telephone line in order to take a Zen Internet broadband package, they don't necessarily need to take their landline from Zen themselves. They can in fact combine a Zen Internet broadband subscription with a line rental from another provider, an option which may be particularly attractive to those customers on a one-month rolling contract with Zen.
Yet while this provides additional flexibility to the customer, it's worth bearing in mind that a broadband-only deal from Zen comes at a slightly higher price, with the provider adding a small premium onto the cost of switching to them. As such, customers would be advised to check with Zen beforehand prior to ordering any particular package.
