How to choose the best Origin broadband deal
Why choose an Origin Broadband deal?
Origin may not be the biggest name in UK broadband, yet the small, Doncaster-based provider is rapidly gaining a reputation for competitive prices, dedicated customer service, and their own independent network. They offer a broad range of speeds from up to 17Mb to up to 76Mb, thereby catering for almost all kinds of needs and customers. They also offer their own free UK-based support service, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. This enables them to give their customers the peace of mind that any problem they might have will be dealt with as efficiently as possible, something which is reinforced by the fact that, unlike many of their rivals, they run their own network.
Knowing which Origin Broadband package to go for
One of the drawbacks of choice is that it can often be confusing as to which of the many options to select. However, working out which of the available Origin Broadband offers is the right one is fairly straightforward, and depends simply on a customer asking themselves what they want to use the package for. If they live alone and use the internet mostly for surfing, social media and reading emails, then an up to 17Mb package will generally be sufficient. However, if they live with more than one person, and/or they use the internet for streaming and other data-intensive activities, then they might want to go for one of the up to 38Mb or 76Mb deals. Of course, there is never any right or wrong answer to this question, but it all turns on just how much customers think they'll use their internet.
What does an Origin Broadband deal come with?
Aside from offering superfast speeds and free 24-hour customer support, Origin Broadband deals come with a number of nice bonuses. For one, there's the free high end router that Origin provide to all new subscribers, and in contrast to certain other providers, Origin deliver it for free as well. Added to this, the installation of their service also comes without an additional charge, saving customers even more money compared to certain other providers.
And even though Origin customers will be economising in relation to other deals on the market, it's worth noting that all Origin Broadband packages provide unlimited downloads and data. They also come without any kind of fair use policy or traffic management policies, which can sometimes slow down broadband connections at peak times. As a result, their customers can rest assured they'll be able to surf and enjoy the web as much as possible, and at a reasonable price.
Practical advice when considering an Origin Broadband deal
Can Origin Broadband be had without a phone line?
The short answer to this is no. That's because line rental is included as standard with all Origin Broadband deals. Nonetheless, customers are able to make normal pay-as-you-go calls using the phone lines they’re provided. However, if they want to benefit from a call plan they'll have to pay a bit extra for their subscription. Also, they’ll have to decide which of the available plans - Weekends & Evenings or Anytime - they'd prefer to have, which once again depends on deciding how much they'd be likely to use their phones.
What length are the contracts?
With an Origin Broadband deal, customers will generally be signing up to receive broadband for an 18-month period, which means that they can't leave the provider before 18 months without having to pay an exit fee. However, with the cheaper, up to 17Mb packages it can often be the case that contract terms are shorter at 12 months, giving customers a bit more flexibility.
That said, even though contract periods are fixed and even though Origin don't offer flexible monthly contracts, there's always the opportunity to cancel without charge during the cooling off period. If a new customer has second thoughts, they can cancel within 14 days of ordering their package or one day before their Origin service is due to go live, which comes first.
Origin assure potential new customers that it's very easy for them to switch to an Origin broadband package. All they have to do is place their order, at which point Origin will handle everything else, including contacting their old supplier and sending out the necessary equipment.
