How to choose the best O2 mobile phone deal

Why choose an O2 pay monthly mobile phone deal?

Joining O2's network as a pay monthly subscriber allows customers to enjoy a wide range of benefits. They'll be able to connect to 4G speeds, enabling them to do more online than they would be able to do with a 3G network. They'll be able to choose from a wide variety of deals and handsets, giving them the flexibility to find a package that suits their circumstances. And should they ever get into trouble, they'll be able to contact O2’s customer service, which regularly features near the top of Ofcom rankings, and which is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Many phone models to choose from

In shopping for an O2 pay monthly mobile phone package, customers will have the ability to choose from a broad selection of handsets. These include many of the current smartphones from the major manufacturers, such as iPhones and Galaxies. This makes O2 ideal for those customers who regularly use their phones online, and who do many more things with them than simply make calls. Yet O2 they also offer a number of more classic and economic handsets, which generally come with a more reasonable price tag, and which are better suited to those people who mostly use their phones in the old fashioned way.

My O2 app

One particular convenience of an O2 pay monthly mobile phone package is the My O2 app that customers can download for free. This enables them to check their data allowances, to purchases any top ups they might need, and to pay their bill quickly and safely. It also enables them to check who they've been calling and messaging, and to even upgrade their deal.

Great extras

Aside from 4G speeds and good customer service, customers signing up for an O2 pay monthly mobile phone deal will also benefit from a number of bonuses. For one, O2 are known for O2 Priority, a promotional scheme through which customers are given the chance to purchase event tickets 48 hours before they're released. It also grants them special gifts such as free coffees at selected stores and discounts at various restaurants.

Added to this, another nice extra is O2 wifi, which is available in thousands of locations around the UK. As an O2 customers, pay monthly subscribers will be able to connect to a public O2 hotspot automatically, without having to register. They're therefore a great way for customers to remain connected to the internet without eating into their data allowance.

Important things to consider

How much data should I get?

The question of how much data to take with a pay monthly deal all depends on what customers use their phones for, and on how often. If they're heavy phone users, connecting their handsets to the web often and using it to download and stream media, then they should go for one of the bigger allowances. That way they won't reach their limit and then have to pay extra for additional data.

That said, if they use their phone's data allowance only occasionally, perhaps to check the odd email and social media post, then they will most likely be able to get by with a smaller data allowance. In this case, there's no need paying extra for something they won't fully use.

Contracts and upgrades

With an O2 pay monthly mobile phone deal, customers will have to take out a 24-month contract. This locks customers into their deal for two years, preventing them from leaving without incurring an exit fee, which can be fairly expensive. However, for those customers who have a change of heart, O2 do allow customers to cancel their order for a full refund, so long as they do so within 14 days of first making it or of receiving their phone (whichever comes later).

There's also the option of upgrading to a new phone before the two years are out, should customers simply want to change model rather than leave O2 altogether. If they do this, they ought to bear in mind that they still need to continue paying off their preexisting phone, although the upgrade means that they receive a payment towards the remaining cost.

Coverage

Even though O2 are moving close to blanket coverage of the UK population, their 4G network still doesn't quite reach everyone in the country. As such, customers should make sure they go use O2's coverage checker, since otherwise there's a slight chance they may end up having to use 2G or 3G when they wanted something faster.
