Why choose a BT broadband and TV deal?
Expanding television coverage
Having moved into television relatively recently, one of the advantages of a broadband and TV deal with BT is that they’re expanding the range of programming they’re offering their customers. This is most evident with BT Sport, which is broadcasting an increasingly wide range of competitions and sports, including Premier League football, motor racing, and rugby. It offers something for most sports fans, while their television packages as a whole come with a wide range of entertainment, drama, factual, music and film channels.
Aside from their television coverage, BT also offer customers the chance to receive superfast broadband. From up to 17Mb packages to the faster up to 52Mb and up to 76Mb BT Infinity ones, there are a variety of speeds on offer that cater for a variety of needs. For example, if customers enjoy downloading or streaming media content (including films, TV programmes and music), then they may prefer a BT Infinity bundle, since it gives them considerably faster speeds. However, if they use the internet mostly for surfing websites, sharing content on social media, and checking up on email, then BT Broadband may be more appropriate.
By combining BT Broadband and TV deals into a single package, customers will receive better value overall, saving money in comparison to a situation where they subscribed to broadband and television deals separately. It will also make their lives considerably easier, insofar as they'll have only one provider to deal with for multiple services, something which could very well save them time and stress in the long run.
Online security software
New customers with PCs are also usually offered free internet security tools by BT. While the particular versions provided are liable to change through time, they generally provide customers with protection against viruses, spyware, phishing attacks and fraud. They also usually provide parental controls, so that parents can set just what the younger members of their household are able to view online.
Is there an Ultra HD option for BT TV?
BT Sport Ultra HD was the UK's first ever Ultra HD channel. It allows viewers to watch sports in vivid, 4K detail, surpassing even regular HD. However, it's not available with every BT broadband and TV package, so customers will need to check beforehand when choosing a particular offer.
What else does BT TV come with?
Aside from allowing customers to watch a wide range of television programming, BT TV also comes with a set-top box that enables them to pause and rewind their favourite shows. And with certain BT Broadband and TV packages, the box they receive will also permit them to record several hundred hours of (standard definition) television.
With all the BT TV and Broadband deals customers will also be able to access Catch up TV, which provides them with the opportunity to watch recent shows they've missed even if they haven’t recorded them.
What kinds of call plans are there?
Call plans vary from one BT broadband and TV package to another, although it's generally the case that BT offer inclusive UK weekend calls with their deals. BT also offer other calling features - such as evening, anytime and even international calls - though these will require an additional fee.
FAQs and general advice
Do customers need a BT phone line?
The short answer to this question is that, yes, new customers need to have a BT phone line if they want to sign up for a BT broadband and TV package. However, if they don't have one prior to signing up they need not worry, since BT will install one for them, although this may involve an installation fee.
Can I get the fastest possible speed?
While BT boasts the biggest broadband network in the UK, the fastest BT Infinity deals might not be available to everyone. One way to check if they are is to use the postcode checker at the top of this page, which will confirm whether or not any given address is covered by BT's FTTC network.
Can I get BT TV without BT Broadband?
As tempting as BT TV may be on its own merits, it isn't actually available to customers without them having BT Broadband. In other words, they need to take broadband and TV from BT together, or they need to subscribe to BT TV after having already signed up to BT Broadband at an earlier date.
With BT, contracts generally last for 12 months. It's important to remember this because, if new customers have signed up with a discounted monthly subscription fee, they may be charged a higher fee after the first year has passed.
Check installation costs
While it varies, certain BT broadband and TV deals ask for an activation or installation fee. For some of the higher-end bundles that include more features this fee can be waived, yet for others it can require a charge for installation and also one for delivery of the BT Home Hub. It's therefore worth checking before committing to anything, otherwise customers may end up paying a little more than they first expected.
