Plusnet bring back 'free' broadband offer
PLUSNET have revived one of their most popular deals, free broadband - when taken with Plusnet landline at £17.99 a month - for the length of the initial contract.
Plusnet tend to run these offers on either year-long or 18-month terms; this time around customers will need to sign up for 18 months.
The Yorkshire ISP are also selling both versions of their superfast broadband - Unlimited Fibre (up to 38Mb) and Unlimited Fibre Extra (up to 76Mb) with a £9.99 per month discount - although the discount only lasts for the first six months with the latter package.
All three offers run until October 4th.
The fly in the ointment is that all three offers are available only to customers in what Plusnet call "low cost areas" - although that now covers around 90% of the UK.
Plusnet broadband - the offers
As ever, "free" broadband isn't completely free of charge.
Customers signing up for Plusnet's Unlimited Broadband (up to 17Mb) - or for their fibre packages - will still need to pay line rental, which costs £17.99 a month.
Unless they have their own router, they'll also need to pay £6.99 postage and packing for Plusnet to send them one.

Those who want a faster connection but still want to keep costs down are probably best looking at Plusnet's Unlimited Fibre, which offers speeds of up to 38Mb, paired with uploads of 1.9Mb.
As outlined above, those who sign up before October 4th will pay just £5 a month for the fibre part of the bundle for 18 months - a saving of £9.99 a month, and almost £120 over the course of the contract:

But while Plusnet have announced plans to upgrade some of their existing 38Mb customers to a faster connection of up to 52Mb, it seems they've no plans to offer the higher speed package to new customers for the time being.
Anyone wanting faster than up to 38Mb fibre will therefore need to consider Plusnet's Unlimited Fibre Extra, which offers speeds of up to 76MB - and is being offered at £27.99 a month (including line rental) for the first six months of the 18-month contract:

As well as getting downloads of up to 76Mb, customers should also find they benefit from some of the fastest uploads available in the UK.
Officially the package is sold as offering uploads of up to 19Mb, as are most other 76Mb fibre deals. But Plusnet are unusual in that customers actually see uploads approaching that kind of speed.
They're no longer the fastest 76Mb provider for uploads, according to Ofcom, but they are still in the top three - only EE's 76Mb deal can consistently beat them in the regulator's surveys.
As we're moving towards November, when all ISPs will have to start selling broadband based on the total monthly cost, we want to make it clear how much each of the above offers will cost per month - assuming customers are paying for line rental on a monthly basis:
Customers can cut these costs by opting for Plusnet's Line Rental Saver, an upfront payment of £185.88 that offers a saving of £18 over 12 months.
Bear in mind that neither standard line rental nor Line Rental Saver includes any calls.
Customers can always add one of Plusnet's call bundles if they want - from £4 a month for evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and mobiles, or £8 for anytime calls; both can be added or removed on a monthly basis.
